Squeeze Mobile Chair Massage FAQ

What is mobile chair massage? (also called on-site massage)

Mobile chair massage is a highly convenient type of relaxation massage done in a comfortable ergonomic chair. Clients remain fully clothed, and no oils or lotions are used. It can be done on site just about anywhere, indoors or out, and requires very little room per provider. Massage length is usually between 5 to 30 minutes, and the massage can be easily tailored to the client. The areas normally targeted are the high tension areas of the upper body: the neck, shoulders, back, arms, and hands. Mobile chair massage is an effective and convenient way to work out muscle knots, tension, and stress.

Is relaxation chair massage covered by extended health care plans?

Extended health care plans usually only cover massage done by registered massage therapists. Please check with your provider to see if they cover relaxation chair massage.

What is the difference between a certified chair massage professional (CCMP) and a registered massage therapist (RMT)?

CCMP's are certified and insured massage professionals trained specifically in relaxation chair massage. This is a unique combination of stress reducing Swedish massage and energizing shiatsu acupressure techniques. Massage provided by a CCMP is ideal for health promotion and stress reduction. RMT's are medical professionals trained to assess, diagnose, and treat soft tissue and musculoskeletal conditions. Typically, treatments are done on a massage table, last and hour, and are done in a clinic. RMT's are not normally trained in chair massage.

Will I feel sleepy afterwards?

Massage can be profoundly relaxing, and this might be interpreted as temporary feeling of sleepiness. You will be left more relaxed and alert, which is ideal for improving performance at work. A study from the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine showed improved performance on math computations and lowered levels of both job stress and depression for people who received massage:

Adults were given a chair massage, and control group adults were asked to relax in a chair for 15 minutes, two times a week for five weeks. Frontal delta power increased for both groups, suggesting relaxation. The massage group showed decreased alpha and beta power, and increased speed and accuracy on math computations. At the end of the five-week period depression scores were lower for both groups but job stress scores were only, for the massage group.

Is the massage chair cleaned between clients?

Yes. Between clients both the chair and the massage professionls hands are cleaned with a sanitizing spray or wipe, and a clean face rest cover is placed on the face cradle.
